Why hiring a licensed, insured plumber matters

It's not just paperwork. Here's what those two words actually buy you.

What "licensed" means

A licensed plumber has passed a state exam, completed an apprenticeship (usually 4+ years), carries continuing-education hours, and is accountable to a state board. If they do shoddy work, you have somewhere to file a complaint that has teeth. Unlicensed work also voids most homeowner's insurance for any damage that follows.

What "insured" means

Two things: liability insurance covers damage to your home if something goes wrong on the job. Workers' comp covers anyone injured on your property while doing the work. Without either, a single bad day can become your problem — your insurance, your lawsuit, your liability. We carry both, and we'll show you the certificates.

Why permits matter

Major work — water heater swap, gas line, sewer replacement, repipe — should be permitted and inspected. The inspection is your second set of eyes. If we ever try to talk you out of pulling a permit, get a different plumber. Cutting that corner can also become a real problem when you sell the house.

Questions to ask any plumber

What's your license number? Are you carrying liability and workers' comp? Do you pull permits? Will you camera-scope before quoting on a sewer? What warranty do you offer on parts and labor? A licensed insured shop answers every one of these without hesitation.
